Is there a God? | Who am I? | What is the purpose of life?
Why is the world the way it is?
| Is Jesus the Messiah? |
Is this all there is?
Is
Jesus The Messiah?
"Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign: Behold, a Virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel" (Isaiah 7:14). What greater sign could be given to us than a virgin giving birth to one who will be called "God with us"??? John 1: 1 tells us "In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God". John 1:14 states, "And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us". Who else can this Word be but Jesus?
Why was it necessary for God to take on human flesh? Isaiah 59:2 says, "But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear". How are we to be reconciled to God? Isaiah 53:5-6 has the answer- "But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him -- and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray, we have turned every one to his own way, and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all."
Why did blood have to be shed" Leviticus 17:11 tells us, "For the life of the flesh is in the blood - and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls, for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul". An atonement is a reparation for an offense or injury.
Get it? We offended God by our rebellion, the penalty for which is death, and God provided the ultimate, permanent atonement by becoming man and shedding His blood in payment for our sins -- "... and without shedding of blood is no remission" Hebrews 9:22.
